The fact that I am setting up another blog exclusively dealing with shopping and fashion should tell you that I’m very interested in clothes and style. Fashion, along with literature and film, is one of my main interests and I believe that, although it is taken far too seriously in some cases, it is not appreciated enough. I believe that clothes are like art. For me, at least, they represent myself. They outwardly reveal what I am like on the inside. I would be very upset if a significant other told me that my looks didn’t affect how they felt about me; it would be an insult. My clothes and style are something I care about deeply and to ignore them is to ignore a major part of me. Whilst I do not believe that people should dress in any way other than the way in which they wish to, I also believe that many people have no idea of what is out there and that clothes should be more fun than just putting on jeans and a t-shirt! I love to play dress-up everyday! My style is mainly composed of usual high-street fodder and vintage finds(I especially love 60s fashion. Not only is it gorgeous but it represents so much that I agree with – change and innovation). I also adore many designer pieces, especially Marc Jacobs, and feel that if you have the money to buy designer then go for it! Like I said, fashion is art, and people spend a fortune on art! Why not spend on art you can wear?!
A few favourite shopping spots:
- Appletree Boutique, Convent Garden – cutesy, unique little dresses and accessories to die for. Most of their stock is very retro in style, so this is a good place if you like the old styles but find genuine vintage a little bit intimidating.
- Liberty’s, Regent St/Great Malborough St – my favourite of the iconic London department stores! It’s in a beautiful building and shopping there feels like exploring a big old house! Has more character than Selfridge’s/Harvey Nics and is less overwhelming than Harrod’s!
- Absolute Vintage, 15 Hanbury St – a real treasure trove of vintage finds. As with all big vintage stores, you need to have a good rummage, but I’ve always found something nice to reward my efforts.
- Dahlia Boutique, Carnaby St – The dresses! Oh dear God, they’re beautiful!
